My Website
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
It is that time of year again. A time to look back through a back-log of “likes” on Vimeo and find the videos that I think are especially good. There are a lot to choose from, but I narrowed it down. These are my favorite videos from 2011.

I just recently found this video and I think it is simply incredible. It is a timelapse of a man creating a portrait of his father using dots. He states that he used 3.2 MILLION dots to create the portrait. The video is well shot, uses some nice motion tracking and counting to add up the dots and has some nice little timelapse sequences. My hand cramped up just from watching the video. Enjoy.
A video that through fantastic editing and framing seems to be a non-stop sequence of walking through 11 countries. This is the third video in a series of three and I recommend watching the other two as well (EAT and LEARN).
3. What I did before I was born by Megan Leigh Sweeney
Megan is a new mother who created this sweet video about her son and the things he did and places he went before he was born. I love the simplicity of the video, the unique perspective and the personal story that gets told here. It is a well made video.
2. Staying with Vegas by Karl Brandstater
Another heart-felt video takes the number two spot for the year. This little documentary begins as a raw rock/metal video, but takes the viewer inside the life of a single father. He does not look like the stereotypical father, but shows his love for his daughter. It is beautiful and gets you to connect with the main character in an amazing way.
1. Earth | Time Lapse View from Space, Fly Over | NASA, ISS by Michael König
This video is a series of timelapses of the earth from space. There are incredible shots, impressive colors, and simply gorgeous views. You really need to watch it.
Bonus: Swings and the Park by Eric Buist
This is my favorite thing I created in 2011. A little experimental video I made in the park near my apartment. Enjoy.
I hope everyone has a happy new year and I am looking forward to what you create in 2012!
